Composer Jonathan Bailey Holland explores his Clarity for Cold Air with Artistic Director Jennifer Montbach, pianist Sarah Bob, and percussionist Aaron Trant. Scored for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano and percussion, the work was commissioned and premiered in November, 2013.
Jonathan says, "Inspired by many a cold, Northern Midwest or New England day, this work is primarily atmospheric, focusing on the sonorities achieved by blending the instruments of the ensemble in various ways. There are many stark sounds - high, glassy harmonics from the strings, bowed metallic percussion instruments, harsh multi-phonics from the winds, airy cymbal rolls."
We'll listen to the complete encore performance from the live audio recording, with bespoke video by filmmaker Dick Bartlett. You'll have an opportunity to ask Jonathan questions and chat with other listeners.
