CHEN – Catch Me If You Can for oboe, viola, and piano  WORLD PREMIERE COMMISSION
SAMUEL COLERIDGE-TAYLOR – Quintet for clarinet and strings in F# minor, Op. 10
HILARY TANN – LLEF for flute and cello

JENNIFER HIGDON – Summer Shimmers for winds and piano

LLEF, a flute and cello duo by the Welsh-born composer Hilary Tann, is a drone-anchored meditation with breathy pentatonic lines that mingle in the shadows of Welsh hymns. Samuel Coleridge-Taylor weaves endlessly inventive, folk-inflected melodies that Shimmer in a nest of Brahmsian form and Dvořák-esque harmony for his robust quintet for clarinet and strings. Light keyboard filigree provides the titular sparkle for Jennifer Higdon’s glimmering, neo-tonal confection Summer Shimmers for winds and piano. Catch Me If You Can, a new work for oboe, viola, and piano by the Chen Jiahao, winner of the Pappalardo Composition Award, rounds out the program.
