Radius Ensemble created an INSIGHT. ... See MoreSee Less

Through music, we can gain insight–knowledge of ourselves, and the world of another. Gabriela Lena Frank connected with her multicultural heritage through discovering its sounds. In Four Pre-Inca Sketches for flute and cello she explores the distant Peruvian past, inspired by its ancient art. Darkness in life sometimes finds a temporary antidote within the imagination. Robert Schumann vacillated between sanity and insanity, and his creative pursuits straddled the literary and the musical. In his work Märchenerzählunge (Fairy Tales), he once again melded sound to story, and briefly escaped the increasing darkness of his mind. Sofia Gubaidulina’s extraordinary String Trio sonically expresses the relationship of independence and unity, and in Fratres Arvo Pärt explores the complex beauty and brotherhood (“fratres” in Latin) found in the notes of a triad, and sound to silence.
