German-born violinist turned composer Charles Martin Loeffler was assistant concert master of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the turn of the twentieth century, and a colleague of oboist Georges Longy, to whom his beautifully evocative Rhapsodies are dedicated. Libby Larsen’s Yellow Jersey portrays the scenic sprinting through the European countryside in the Tour de France, while our ancient Australopithecine ancestor, Lucy, is brought to life by Boston composer Elena Ruehr. Plus, Mozart’s majestic quintet for horn and strings.
